This item is a Battenburg Cake Divider or also called a Checkered loaf. It is a 4 piece set and is in excellent condition. It comes with the original box that does have a few tears and holes on it. It has instructions on the box! Great vintage piece!
It is made in Taiwan.
Each tin measures 31cm in length, 10.8cm in width and 3.1cm in height.
Battenberg or Battenburg is a light sponge cake held together with jam. The cake is covered in marzipan and, when cut in cross-sections, displays a distinctive two-by-two check pattern alternately coloured pink and yellow. The large checkered patterns on emergency vehicles in the UK are officially referred to as Battenburg markings because of their resemblance to the cake. Charles Nevin wrote in The Independent: “Battenberg cake is exemplarily British".
It has the usual markings and dints of a vintage cake tin. It has some surface rusting on the sides.
There are two vintage inserts in my shop that also fit it.
